Satan Is Real is a gospel bluegrass album by American country music duo The Louvin Brothers, released in 1959
Designed by Ira Louvin, the cover features the brothers standing in a rock quarry, dressed in matching spotless white suits and black ties, in front of a 12-foot-tall plywood rendition of the Devil, as several hidden tires soaked in kerosene burn behind them as fire and brimstone.
Once you get past this bonkers cover, this is a really great album with the close harmonies that siblings produce.
This vinyl copy has the added bonus of the genuinely Country-gothic and haunting murder balled “Knoxville Girl”.
I played in a Bluegrass band (The Wrinklepickers) among other things a few years ago and this stuff is just great.
