The Painted Word is the fourth studio album by English post-punk band Television Personalities. It was released in 1984 by record label Illuminated.
A bleak, anti-war record which is a creative highpoint for Dan Treacy. A tough but frequently stunning listen with the quality of the song writing. There’s so much more to this band than the psychedelic pop culture props. This is all written to the early 80’s backdrop of Nuclear dread and The Falklands war so a bleak record for bleak time. Because this is Dan Treacy it’s all framed through his 1960’s tinged world view. It’s devastating and he’s writing about his depression and dread here.
Late in 2011 Treacy suffered a blood clot in his brain and was forced to undergo emergency surgery. The procedure was severe enough that it left Treacy unable to make music as he recovered.
